What makes certain foods taste better, feel meatier and chewier, and have bite and mouthfeel similar to meat? It’s likely textured vegetable protein or soya TVP.

Soya TVP is a defatted soya product, or a by-product of the extraction of soyabean oil. It is a processed soya food product that is manufactured by separating (or isolating) the soy protein from other components found in the whole soyabean. The defatted soya protein is compressed into granules or chunks, and usually dried and rehydrated before cooking. (TVP is a dehydrated product - so it needs to be reconstituted in hot water or broth for about 10 minutes or more in the cooking process before it becomes palatable or easy to cook and eat.)

Our textured vegetable protein is particularly ideal for protein fortification and texture enhancement due to its amazing textural properties. When hydrated, they feature a fibrous meat-like texture with superior moisture retention. 

Our soya TVP also provides an excellent mouthfeel, making it apt for meat and meat-alternative applications. The dry form provides unique textures that characterise many of the most popular bars and snacks in the world.

Most people who follow a vegetarian or vegan diet would have come across textured vegetable protein, since it is a common ingredient found in vegetable and vegan burger patties, veggie hot dogs, and vegetarian meat substitutes. By itself, textured vegetable protein has a bland flavour - but this is also its best quality, since spices and flavourings can be easily added to soya TVP to make it taste like the meat product it's imitating.

Our textured vegetable protein or soya TVP comes in a few different varieties:

  • Soya mini chunks: Our chunks contain 53% protein, 3.5% crude fibre (max), a water absorption capacity of 2 to 3 parts.
  • Soya wadi: Our soya wadi contains 53% protein, crude fibre of 3.5% max, a water absorption capacity of 2 to 3 parts and is of a yellow to brownish colour.
  • Soya granules: Our soya granules also contain 53% protein, 3.5% crude fibre (max) and a water absorption capacity of 2 to 3 parts.
